About me

My name is Mohamed Ahmed Mousa Al Hammadi. I am 19 years old. I live in Bani Yas which is about 35 km from Abu Dhabi. I finished High school last year and my final grade was 74.3%, after that I was accepted in the HCT. I skipped the foundation year because I had a challenge exam in English and Mathematics and I passed both of them. I am planning to enter civil engineering, but I may change my mind. I have many interests and the main one is graph designing. I started this hobby about two years ago. This blog is about global warming, the causes of this phenomenon and it is effects; its also about global warming in the UAE. I hope you like it.

Summary

I found that this project helped me to know more and more about global warming. Before this project when I heard about global warming I didn’t care and didn’t pay attention. Now I pay more attention and try to do something to help to reduce the affects of this phenomenon. I think that we don’t do much to help preventing this phenomenon.

UAE and Global Warming

Dubai International Airport MET office released figures comparing the last decade of weather records tracked at the airport weather station, to the decade before. For example, from 1985-1995, the average daily temperature was 27C, from 1995 to 2005, the mean daily number climbed to 28C. You can see that the temperature is rising and we have to do somthing to stop it because it is already hot here.

Twenty public and private schools in Abu Dhabi will switch off electric power for one hour to pledge their commitment to tackling climate change. I think that more school should do the same initiative to make the children aware of this problem. Another initiative was held by Ras Al Khaimah Environment Awareness Programme is asking people to pledge to switch off unnecessary light bulbs, air-conditioners and other machines as part of Earth Day.

The effects of global warming

Global warming has many effects on the environment and human life. The main effect is the rise in global average temperature. Due to that there are many effects and results namely rising sea levels, altered patterns of agriculture, increased extreme weather events, and the expansion of the range of tropical diseases. In some cases the effect is already occurring.

The causes of global warming

Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases which trap the infrared radiation emitted from the earth. Despite the fact that these gases make up a small percentage of our atmosphere, they remarkably affect the amount of infrared light energy leaving the earth. Therefore they disrupt the heat balance and cause global warming. Carbon dioxide has the highest percentage of infrared absorption with 64% of the greenhouse gases. The main sources of carbon dioxide are coal-burning power plants, factories and automobiles. Coal-burning power plants are the largest source of carbon dioxide in the US. The other 36% of greenhouse gases that cause global warming are methane gas, nitrogen oxides, ozone, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)

What is global warming?

Global warming is the slow rise in the earth's temperature. It is caused by greenhouse gases that trap the sun’s heat in the Earth’s atmosphere. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. Gases that contribute to global warming include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxides, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and halocarbons (the replacements for CFCs). Carbon dioxide emission is primary caused by the use of fossil fuels.
